Certain types of grasses may not be available from sod farms, so choosing and planting your own selection of grass types may be preferable. However, grasses take time to take root and grow. Installing sod is easy when done right, however when it's done poorly, further reinstallation may be necessary. Certain types of grasses do well in direct sunlight while others are better for shady areas. It is best to use a combination of grasses. Grasses that are best for shaded lawns, particularly in summer are: Perennial Ryegrass, Tall Fescue, Fine Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass, Centipede grass and St. Augustine grass.
